Patient Experiences

What patients from South Delhi say

My diabetic retinopathy had been ignored for years. Dr. Mithal explained the OCT scan to me on the screen, started injections, and my vision has been stable for two years now. She never rushes.
R. SharmaGreater Kailash · Diabetic Retinopathy
I had cataract surgery in both eyes three weeks apart. Day-care, no stitches, and I was reading the newspaper the next morning without glasses. The counselling about lens choice was very honest.
Mrs. A. KapoorPanchsheel Park · Cataract Surgery
Went for a second opinion after being told I needed retinal surgery urgently. Dr. Mithal did a thorough scan and said laser would do. Two years later my retina is fine. Grateful for her honesty.

FAQ

Questions patients ask us most

Who is the best eye specialist in South Delhi for retina problems?
Dr. Charu Mithal is a fellowship-trained vitreo-retinal surgeon with 18+ years in ophthalmology, trained at LVPEI Hyderabad, Dr. R.P. Centre AIIMS and Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust in the UK. She consults at Max Smart Saket, Max Panchsheel Park and Synergy Eye Care, and treats diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular hole and ARMD. When choosing any retina surgeon, look for a dedicated vitreo-retinal fellowship, access to OCT and FFA on site, and a willingness to give you a written plan.
How do I book an appointment with Dr. Charu Mithal?
Call or WhatsApp +91 79825 32813, or fill in the appointment form on this page. Mention which location suits you — Saket, Panchsheel Park or Synergy Eye Care — and the problem you are facing, so we can allot enough time and arrange any tests you may need on the same visit.
What should I bring to my first eye consultation?
Bring your current spectacles or contact lenses, any previous prescriptions, past eye reports or OCT scans, a list of medicines you take, and your diabetes or blood-pressure records if applicable. If your eyes may need dilation, arrange for someone to accompany you home as your vision will stay blurred for a few hours.
Is cataract surgery painful, and how long is the recovery?
Modern phacoemulsification is done under topical anaesthetic drops. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain, and the procedure takes 15–20 minutes as day-care surgery. Useful vision usually returns within 24 hours, with drops continuing for around four weeks. Heavy lifting, swimming and dusty environments are avoided for two to four weeks.
Do you accept insurance and cashless claims?
Yes. Surgeries performed at Max Smart Saket and Max Panchsheel Park are supported by their TPA and cashless insurance desks for most major insurers. Please carry your policy card and ID, and share your insurer's name when booking so pre-authorisation can be started early.
How often should a diabetic have a retina check-up?
Anyone with type 2 diabetes should have a dilated retina examination at diagnosis and then at least once a year, even without symptoms. If retinopathy is already present, or during pregnancy, checks may be needed every three to six months. Diabetic retinopathy is painless in its early stages, which is exactly why it is caught late so often.
Am I a suitable candidate for LASIK?
Suitability depends on a stable spectacle number for at least a year, adequate corneal thickness, a normal corneal topography with no signs of keratoconus, controlled dry eye, and age above 18. A detailed refractive workup at our clinic takes about two hours and will tell you whether LASIK, Contoura, SMILE or an ICL is the safer option for your eyes.
